Midlands clubbing guide

The spring bank holiday weekend is upon us and that can only mean an extra day to party.

Friday has a bit of variety on offer. Get down to The Hare & Hounds to catch spoken word phenomenon Scroobius Pip presenting his club night series We Are Lizards. He’s brought along DMC Scratch star Destruction for the ride and between them and a slew of other DJs you can expect to hear hip-hop, house, bass, disco, dubstep and everything in between.

The Rainbow on the other hand has got drum and bass on the brain as Critical Sound are in the house for a label takeover. As is often the case these days it’s the Blackbox that is hosting this party, its intimate space and monster sound the perfect fit for Critical’s musical aesthetic. Ivy Lab, Alix Perez and Kasra supply the tunes.

Moving onto Saturday and we’re off to Walsall for a bit more drum and bass, this time at DNB Collective at Vogue. It’s an upfront spectacular with Low Down Deep head honcho Logan D going back to back with Dominator as well as DJ Sly plus residents Looney and Total Recall. The Rainbow Venues is hosting the return of Regression Sessions, a night that took the country by storm when it kicked off a few months ago. I got a chance to DJ at the first Birmingham one and it really is something special. Imagine great underground music combined with bouncy castles, ball pits, space hoppers, street food, giant jenga, retro gaming and much more. You’d be a fool to miss it.

The Hare & Hounds has got a night of roots and dub reggae for you – Trojan Sound System bring their earth-shaking system out to play and support is provided by Young culture Sound and Olbi Iyah.

Finally we’re onto Sunday, and there’s loads on! Moulin Groove presents Youandewan at The Hare & Hounds. Expect deep, soulful and delicate house vibes throughout the night, while at Lab11 TRMNL present Matthias Tanzmann where you can hear thumping techno all night long. The techno doesn’t stop there either, The Rainbow has a double bill. Elrow takes over the Warehouse with as-yet unannounced special guests, while the Courtyard holds Labyrinth.
