Goodbye JLS! Here are their best bits!

Six years ago, a little known boyband by the name of JLS made it to the final of the X Factor. In the end they lost out to popstar Alexandra Burke but with an estimated fortune of £6 million per member, it’s JLS who have had the last laugh.
Goodbye JLS! Here are their best bits!

After selling more than 10 million records worldwide and winning 5 MOBO awards, JLS have decided to hang up their microphones and focus on solo projects.

They’ve released an album, Goodbye – The Greatest hits, a book – forever and a day and they currently travelling the length and breadth of the country on a farewell tour – which comes to Birmingham this Wednesday and Friday.

These boys certainly know how to go out with a bang.

We take a look at some of our favourite JLS moments and a few facts about the boys you may not already know...

UFO Days...
JLS were making music long before the X Factor. Known then as UFO, the lads won best unsigned music act at the Urban Music Awards in 2007.

X Factor...
UFO auditioned for the X Factor in 2007 but had to change their name as it was being used by another group and thus, JLS was born. Throughout the live shows the judges called them the 'best band ever' to come out of the X Factor. The boys made it through to the final but finished second, losing to Alexandra Burke.

Beat Again…
This song was an unusual debut single from reality show contestants as it was not a cover song. Beat Again was released in July 2009 and peaked at number one in the UK singles chart. It sold a massive 106,299 copies, making it the second fastest single of 2009 behind Dizzee Rascal’s Bonkers. The song won Best British Single at the MOBO awards 2009 and 2010 BRIT awards making them the first act from X Factor to win a Brit Award.

JLS jumpers
Those famous jumpers

JLS Jumpers…
Who can forget those jumpers? Back in 2009 and 2010 there was hardly a teenage girl in the country who didn’t own a JLS jumper. Each member of the band had their own signature colour - so you could pick your jumper according to your fave member!

The Club is Alive…

Released in 2010, this song went straight into the UK charts at number one. The lyrics sample The Sound Of Music and it was very different from anything JLS had released before. The song sold 84,283 and became the boys third number one hit.

JLS Foundation…
The JLS Foundation was set up in 2010 and has since supported many wonderful causes, including Sport Relief, MS Society and NSPCC. Despite the split, the boys all vow to remain committed to the foundation and are planning a very special event for next year.

JLS Condoms…
In 2010 the boys went where no other pop group had gone before. They launched their own condom range with Durex. The range was called Just Love Safe and the boys hoped they would encourage their millions of fans to practice safe sex. In the words of Marvin, ‘It’s important to put your love in a glove.’

Tinie Tempah…
We can’t think of many boybands who can say they’ve duetted with one of the UK’s biggest rappers. "Eyes Wide Shut"  made it to number eight in the UK charts.

Jukebox…
Another top 5 UK album came in 2011 when the boys released their third studio album, Jukebox. It included number one single, She Makes Me Wanna and number two single, Take A Chance On Me

Evolution…
The bands fourth studio album marked a massive change in musical direction for JLS. It was less pop and more R&B. The most noteable single was Hottest Girl In The World which left fans with mixed feelings, some loved it and some were left disappointed with the change of musical direction.

Goodbye…
On April 2013 the boys released an official statement on their website announcing they would be splitting up after releasing a greatest hits album and completing their third and final UK arena tour. The boys have since released a farewell book and farewell single, A Billion Lights
