James Morrison brought a much needed touch of soul to V Festival in the glorious Sunday sunshine.
The singer and vocalist may be a bit out of place on a main stage line up featuring grime artist Stormzy and pop megastar Justin Bieber but he was more than happy to let his music do all the talking for him.
As he departed the stage, he made sure to thank his band and remind the audience that what they do is '100% live', not that any machine could be as soulful as his voice.
After riding high in the charts around 10 years ago, Morrison has gone slightly off the map.
However, this time out of the spotlight seems to have done him the world of good, as his performance came across as confident without wanting to pander to the crowd too much.
The set was split pretty much straight down the middle between upbeat, Marvin Gaye-style soul and somber ballads.
Overall, it was a nice reminder that even today, sometimes the classic formula works best.
