Apparently we should all be “transition dressing”.
Read any fashion piece or listen to any beauty editor and you’ll soon realise it’s the buzzword of the moment.
To us mere mortals, it simply means dressing appropriately for the turn in seasons. Basically, warm enough to stand up against those sudden gusts of wind or blasts of rain but cool enough to keep you comfortable when the sun breaks through. We’ve all been stuck in a stuffy and sweaty office, desperately peeling off the layers, when an unexpected warm spell hits and it’s not pretty. Damn you opaque tights, damn you we say!
Anyways, we digress: apparently the humble denim dress is the perfect garment for transition dressing. Summery but sturdy; soft but substantial, it’s got it all.
And the good news is, it’s super easy to wear, whether you’re aged 15 or 50, size eight or 18.
Younger models out there should embrace jean dresses with a twist, such as this £12 dunagree beauty from Primark or skater-style Ship Ahoy number £60 from Yumi, while the more mature can go for classic shift and shirt designs. Two of the best shirt dresses on the high street at the mo are this £25 Littlewoods creation and £30 navy dress from Next. La Redoute have also got a nice faded shirt dress for £65.
If you’re a fan of the shift, try this simple and stylish design from SimplyBe, with a pricetag of £45, or this waisted dress for £45 from Oliver Bonas. Style them out with shimmering gold accessories and a classic leather bag.
A simple white shirt for layering and super-cute colour-pop ballet flats are other ways to make your dress come alive.
