The Wine House - Homely and Classy

The exposed brick and timber walls give it a lovely homely feel and the restaurant is just oozing with character, class and comfort.

You can find The Wine House along the main street for good restaurants in Lichfield and just a short walk away from the Market Square, this is a must for serious foodies or those looking to celebrate a special occasion.

I had walked past the restaurant many times, which looks very smart, but had never ventured in before. I am so glad that I did as I honestly think it could have been the best Sunday Lunch I have ever had.

As soon as you step inside the doors you feel at ease and want to enjoy a good glass of wine served by the top-class serving staff.

The exposed brick and timber walls give it a lovely homely feel and the restaurant is just oozing with character, class and comfort, but also has a very contemporary feeling with the oak and leather tables and chairs and wooden floors. There is also a separate area if you just fancy going in for a nice drink.

For starters I chose the Smoked Halibut, Charred Asparagus, Hollandaise and Poached Egg. Not only was it beautifully presented but the tastes together were divine. The fish was finely sliced and delicate, the asparagus was tender and sweet, and the poached egg cooked to perfection.

My companion went for the Roasted Plum Tomato Soup finished with Pesto Oil and served with Thickly Sliced Bloomer. I made sure I had a little taste and it was not only full of flavour but also strong in taste. For our main course, I chose the Free Range Chicken Supreme with Apricot and Red Onion Stuffing. My friend had the Roast Sirloin of Beef with Yorkshire Pudding and Pan Gravy. We were left satisfied and full – and commenting we will have to come back again to sample the other menus.

There are a number of menus available at the restaurant. For the Sunday lunch, two courses cost £17.95 and for three courses £22.95.

On the main menu, prices are reasonable to the higher end – with a 7oz Kobe Beef Fillet costing £60.But there is also the option of Duo of Packington Pork Fillet wrapped in Pancetta, Braised Pork Belly, Pommes Puree, Mini Apple Balls, Roast Salsify and a Cider Reduction costing £16.95 and also tasty vegetarian dishes on offer.
