TV chef and Italian food guru Antonio Carluccio certainly got a good look at Shrewsbury when he opened his latest restaurant.
“This is a wonderful town and one which I saw three times today when my taxi driver got lost on my journey to the hotel from the station,” said the 77-year-old at the launch of his 79th restaurant.
Mr Carluccio has opened in the Square in the heart of town, in the former Jane Dyas ladieswear shop.
He was full of praise for Shrewsbury, and hopes to provide a place where people can “enjoy a coffee, sit and watch the world go by” – not to mention enjoy the best Italian food.
Last night’s launch saw visitors treated to a taste of Italy with peach Bellinis, glasses of prosecco and nibbles including deep fried risotto balls, Parma ham and courgette and ricotta cheese rolls.
