The critically-acclaimed Russian State Ballet and Opera House will be performing the classic opera Carmen in Stafford next month.
The opera, one of French Composer George Bizet’s most popular pieces, will be staged at the Gatehouse Theatre on October 9 from 7.30pm
It tells the story of ‘the thrill and passion of love, jealousy and violence’ in 19th Century Seville.
Don José, a naïve soldier, is seduced by Carmen – a free-spirited ‘femme fatale’.
José abandons his childhood sweetheart and deserts from his military duties, yet loses Carmen’s love to the glamorous toreador Escamillo.
The opera’s ‘fierce mix of passion, gorgeous melodies, nail-biting dramatic confrontations and musical wit’ has enthralled audiences all over the world since its first performance in 1875.
Tickets are £32.50 or £30.50 concessions from the box office on 01785 619080 or www.staffordgatehousetheatre.co.uk
