An annual dragon boat race celebrated its 15th anniversary with a record time recorded by familiar winners.
Thousands of people attended the event, organised by the Rotary Club of Wolverhampton, at Himley Hall and Park on Saturday. They were treated to a fine display by the crew of Jona’s Arc, a team of engineers from UTC Aerospace in Wolverhampton, who came in as reigning champions and serial past winners.
They did not disappoint the crowds, racing to victory in a record time of 1.07.20. But they were pushed all the way by Toxic Boating Club, made up of friends from the South Staffordshire Sailing Club, which finished a fraction of a second later.

Coming in third was a team from Marston’s Brewery who recorded a time of 1.07.93. Winning the competition among school entries was the crew from Tettenhall College, who were raising funds for Save the Children.
Each year the event centred on the park’s Great Lake raises thousands of pounds.
