Top parks to visit in the West Midlands

From parks and playing fields to nature reserves and allotments.

Green spaces across the West Midlands have been awarded the coveted Green Flag award for their beauty.

And with the summer holidays in full swing, there's no better time to get out and visit the attractions.

Among the sites in the West Midlands to receive the Green Flag, which is considered the benchmark national standard for parks in the UK, are Sandwell Valley Country Park, Grade-I listed The Leasowes in Halesowen, which also won the Green Heritage Accreditation.

In Walsall, both Willenhall Memorial Park and Palfrey Park – for the eighth and seventh years running respectively – earned the accolade, as well as Merrion’s Wood and Rough Wood and Bentley Haye.

Cannock Chase won four awards, including for Cannock Park and Elmore Park. Beacon Park in Lichfield was also successful, along with Stafford Crematorium and Victoria Park in Stafford.

Baggeridge Country Park near Sedgley and Wom Brook Walk in Wombourne, which are both run by South Staffordshire Council, received the award, along with Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Gardens in Bewdley and Broadwaters Park, Kidderminster.

Nationally a record number of parks, cemeteries, university campuses and shopping centres – 1,476 in total – will be displaying their Green Flag Award.
