Sisters Nina Ismet, 55, left, and Kay Burford, 53, are organising a charity ball to raise cash for Cancer Research UK

Kay Burford and Nina Ismet are hoping to raise £5,000 for Cancer Research UK from the event at Shifnal’s Park House Hotel in February next year.

The sisters, both from Telford, are both now in remission following surgery, and said they wanted to do something positive following their experience. Nina, 55, from Mill Farm Drive in Randlay, was diagnosed in October last year, while Kay, who is 53 and from Little House Drive in Lawley, was told she had the disease in June.

Kay, who works in the education department at Telford & Wrekin Council, said the black-tie event on February 20 would include a disco, live music and a charity auction. “My sister had a mastectomy, her cancer was removed, and she’s going to have further treatment, and I have had surgery, I will need to continue with the treatment for the next five years,” she added.

Doors will open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets can be bought from Nina by emailing
