Model and television presenter Melanie Sykes shared memories of childhood caravan holidays at the great British seaside when she opened The Motorhome & Caravan show at the NEC Birmingham today.
The mother-of-two officially declared the show open and shared her own memories.
She said: "I have some golden memories of caravan holidays from my childhood. It was a time when the family all got together to relax and have fun; playing sports on the beach, climbing trees and building sandcastles. Now I am looking forward to enjoying those experiences again with my own children.”
Melanie first shot to fame after appearing in the Boddingtons Brewery adverts in the mid 1990s.
After first reporting for The Big Breakfast, Sykes continued her television career, including stints on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and as presenter of Eastenders Revealed. She has also hosted a variety of awards shows, including Miss World, the BAFTAs and the Q Awards, and presented her own radio show on Capital FM.
Around 100,000 enthusiasts are expected to flock to the Motorhome and Caravan Show, which takes up 11 halls of the NEC, from today until Sunday (Oct 20) - the equivalent of 12 Premier League football pitches.
The show is the launchpad for all new motorhome and caravan models for 2014. Campsite cooking tips are also available from TV chef, author and restauranteur Ed Baines until Friday - who is starring in his own cooking theatre. There are also golf challenges and archery demonstrations.
